Women paving the way to provide more opportunities for their daughters in sports
I have used this space before to talk about the importance of recognizing volunteers for a successful youth-sports program. And every year I am reminded of the truly exceptional people who make that possible.
This year, during the nominating process for the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) volunteer coach and parent-of-the-year awards, something unprecedented happened. The obvious choice for the NAYS Coach of the Year was a woman (a mom), and the top nomination for NAYS Volunteer Parent of the Year was a man (a dad). While in today’s world this should come as no surprise, it felt really good to recognize these winners in what is a big change in roles from just 20 years ago.
